I wonder...

When someone calls you by the wrong name, should you correct them? For well over a month now, whenever my coworker and I make our daily journey across the street to Starbucks, the receptionist in our building says "Good morning Stephanie and Marjorie!" She's such a nice lady and I really enjoy talking to her...but the problem is that Marjorie's real name is Rebekah. We have no idea where the name Marjorie came from, but despite the attempts that Rebekah made to correct this faux pas, her fake name stuck. We had other coworkers joke around with us saying that they'd tell her that Marjorie's twin is actually the one who works here and her name is Rebekah and a few other creative ideas, but none of them ever seemed to work. So Rebekah lived life with her work name alias. Today Rebekah ran over to my desk to tell me that the receptionist had called her to tell her that she had a package waiting for her at the front desk. Oops. The lovely receptionist was about to find out the error of her ways. Rebekah took the elevator and I ran down the four flights of stairs as fast as my legs could carry me so that I could hide around the corner from where this would all be taking place. The receptionist was embarassed and we laughed walking back up the four flights of stairs to our desks. The end.

I would. I had someone who use to call my EQP Rass-Mu-Sin when it was Rass-ma-son, and once i corrected him he never made the mistake again and thanked me later.
