something la mama would be proud of.

Here are some pictures for you from Sunday's pasta making adventure. Kirsten and I were having problems with our pasta rolling out properly for a little while. We were getting a little annoyed.

But hey - we were finally able to get it to roll out right.
So happy! I actually really love this picture of me and Kirsten.

Once we got the pasta to roll out correctly, we ran it through the slicer and wa-la!! Fettucini! The noodles were so long that we had to put it on a hanger and put it fairly high off the ground.

And just a side note - looking at these pictures, I just thought "oh yeah - I'm blonde!" Even I seem to forget sometimes.

How Can It Be Wednesday?

This week is going by too quickly. I mean...I haven't even taken my laundry in this week yet! I really need to get on it if I'm really going to Spain on Saturday, right? Just to get you excited about my upcoming trip, check out this amazing picture. Oh yeah - that's the Rock of Gibraltar on the southern tip of Spain. Look familiar?? And fyi.com - did you know that it is inhabited by macaques? Seriously. Awesome unknown diseases here I come!

But since I don't have a whole lot of time on my hands this week to come up with really whitty things to say, I'll show you some pictures from one of my latest adventures.

A few weeks ago I went hiking in Marin and the lovely Kristine took some pictures and sent them to me. And since I'm all about entertaining you, here they are.

Me and Jeremy making our way down the side of Mt. Tamalpais.

Then suddenly you're in the middle of a forest all the way until you get down to the beach. And a very beautiful forest at that, don't you think?

And really, this pictures it the entire reason that I went hiking. Yep, that's right. For a polish dog at the hot dog stand at Stinson Beach. I'll never forget the first time I ate one. Oh yum. I'm just glad that Kristine was just as excited about it as I was.

And after the following picture was taken, Kristine and I decided to take a nap right there and have Jeremy, Sara, and Clark hike back to the car and then come get us. I mean...Kristine and I were supposed to go to Santa Barbara that weekend anyway, so we needed to get a little beach time in! Two hour nap in the sun in the sand. Check.

Thanks for a good time, friends. Let's go get a hot dog again soon.

Next Time, Bring Me Some Pants With an Elastic Waist Band

When Scott told me that he and Zach were coming into town a few weeks ago, I had no idea what I was in for. I mean...I'd only seen both of them twice before in my entire life. All I really knew was that they make me laugh. A lot. With that knowledge alone, I was ready for them to come. I'd been needing a weekend full of laughs for a while, so it was just what the doctor ordered.

We started the weekend off right with dinner at Tasty Curry. Pants down, it is my favorite Indian Restaurant in San Francisco. I could seriously eat it every day. I've blogged about it before, so you know how I feel already. We saw some familiar faces there too.

Later on that night when we got back to my house, Rebecca and I introduced Scott and Zach to The Twins. Hello, Chuckie. Scary! We had many more photos from this little photo shoot, but I figure that this is enough to give you nightmares for a few days.

For lunch on Friday, I met Zach and Scott down at the Ferry Building for lunch. While we were waiting for everyone to arrive, we sampled these amazing dipping oils. At $14.95 a bottle, we figured it was best to just sample and not buy our own.

Sometimes you see something and you have no idea that its really foreshadowing your next couple of days.

Finally, our entire party was there, so we went to the Slanted Door for some fine Vietnamese cuisine. I'd never been there before and had always wanted to go; and let me tell you. It was worthwhile. The company was great too. Erica and I have a mutual friend from Utah who was in town for a few weeks, so she met up with us too. Our moms are good friends and neighbors in Utah, so it was great catching up!

Though I don't have any pictures from Friday night, we went to Cha Cha Cha's on Haight and wow. Being with Zach & Scott on Haight was quite an experience. I've never been offered drugs so often in my entire life. The food at Cha Cha Cha's was great, but since I was with 3 guys, we went to the Crepevine for dessert.

Saturday we met up with Rita at The Grove on Chestnut before heading out to Muir Woods. I hadn't been there since I was a little girl, and it was awesome.

So awesome in fact that we acted like Roman sculptures while standing on a big rock.

From the day we arrive on the planet
And blinking, step into the sun

Just kidding. ha! I'm sure that everyone who goes to Muir Woods has this picture, but what can I say? We're inside a tree! Hello!

Since I hadn't been to Muir Woods in quite some time, I don't know if this is a seasonal thing, but hello, LADYBUGS! They were everywhere...and lucky for us, they weren't flying. I did feel them crawling up my legs though after we'd been standing there for a while. Sick! Don't they look like little candies?

And here's the Power Point that we arranged for this photo.

Somewhere beneath these ladybugs you can see Zach's nose and facial hair.

Our next stop was Muir Beach. Scott swore to us that you could find sea anenomes there, but all we saw were huge waves and some people braving the cold water.

On our way back into the city, we stopped for a group photo. It's weird thinking that I just met these guys within the past 6 months. I love things like that.

For dinner that night, we met up with some friends of Scott & Zach's at Jackson Fillmore. We were due for some much desired Mitchell's Ice Cream. By the way...are Scott and Zach making my butt look big??

And don't you worry. Italian food & ice cream were obviously not enough because we had an 11:30pm reservation at Mexico DF for some tacos.

On Sunday afternoon, we had one thing left to do before Scott & Zach left town. It involved peanut butter and one slice of bread each.

FOLDYOVERS!!
This is where our friendship all began.

Don't be confused. This is not a half sandwich. Maybe a distant relative though.

Man I love these guys.

And you know, a lot of girls may have been running some type of marathon this weekend, but I was running a different type of marathon. In fact, I called it the "Lane Bryant Eat Your Way Across San Francisco Marathon"...and I won a pumpkin pie trophy.

On more than one occasion, I looked at Zach and Scott and said "You guys....I'm going to be bulimic for a few weeks after you leave." Don't worry...just kidding, but really, anyone have any ex-lax?

mmmmmm

Last night I had some people over to watch a movie and have homemade hot chocolate.

Here's the recipe I used via Receipezaar:

3-4 tablespoons granulated sugar
3 tablespoons Nestle Toll House baking cocoa
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 1/3 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  1. In a small heavy-duty saucepan; combine sugar, cocoa and cinnamon.
  2. Over medium heat, gradually stir in milk and stir constantly until hot, do not boil.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Beat with a wire whisk until frothy and pour into cups. Serve immediately.
We didn't actually end up watching a movie, but we had some red couch time, which is always way better than a movie anyway. Plus, the hot cocoa was divine if I do say so myself. The recipe posted only makes enough for 2, so I doubled it since there were 4 of us.

Continuing the Birthday Celebrations

Tonight, Rita took me out for my birthday. I know, I know, my birthday was a few weeks ago, but who says that you can't go on celebrating? We went to a nice Middle Eastern restaurant in the Mission called Majool's Sky Terrace and it was great! I mean...when you order the chicken and they bring you out an entire chicken (imagine a midget Turkey if you need a better mental image than the below picture), what's not to love? And I might add that it was mighty delicious. Thanks Rita!!!

here's Rita carving the chicken...

Before going home for the night, we stopped at Bi-Rite Creamery. Rita told a little fib and said that it was my birthday. So before I knew it, the lights were all off and the staff was singing me happy birthday with a full-on birthday cup o'ice cream.

Happy Birthday to me!

So then when I got home, two of my ultra fun friends were getting ready to leave my house. You may remember these two characters from this episode on the Outer Banks of NC this past May. I love seeing people who make me laugh and bring back good memories.

Brent (on the right) told us that while his motto for 2007 is "This is my now", his motto for 2008 is even catchier: "Bigger, Better, Rougher, Tougher." It sounds like a Toyota Tundra advertisement, but that gets me thinking...what should my motto for 2008 be? Maybe I should wait to decide until the winner of the 2008 season of American Idol sings the winning song. I just googled the phrase "motto for 2008" and the first one to come up is "Still the choice of champions." Maybe it's a sign.

...then again, maybe not.

Horn Almonds

One of the first weekends I lived in San Francisco proper, a friend took me to the Russian Bakery on Geary & 20th Ave to have a Horn Almond. After that one excursion, we would go there every few months for special occasions to have one of these delectable pastries. I hadn't been there in well over two years, but today when Roommate and I were driving by, I couldn't resist. So delicious.

Delicious Dinner

So as you all know, I've got a celebrity twin. You'd think that I'd have her cookbook or something, but I don't. I do get her magazine, which I love, but I'd never tried any of the recipes in it before last night. This was my first attempt at any Rachael Ray recipe and it turned out awesome. Fairly healthy and YUM-O!

Nick's Crispy Tacos

Last night I went to Nick's Crisy Taco with a friend and I wanted to kick myself for never going there before. The food was amazing! Burrioteater only gives it an overall 6.89 mustaches, but I thought it was great. Seriously; the best salsa & guac that I've had in a long time and the prices aren't bad at all. Check it out.
